- September: A group of individuals ‘The Five’ decide to privately fund Doctor Adam Smiley’s research.

- March: Dr. Smiley begins his research in a undisclosed location.
- 1963:
- August: Rumors of Soviets doing genetic testing debunked. All but one of ‘The Five’ pull out funding. Dr. Smiley continues his tests.
- 1965:
- February: Dr. Smiley isolates gene that goes into creating ‘super’ abilities. Determine this gene comes in two forms: dormant (gamma) and active (alpha). Only .01% of the population the gene and of this group, only another .01% has the Alpha gene. Dr. Smiley looks for ways to ‘activate’ the dormant Gamma gene.

- September: Dr. Smiley successfully activates the ‘Gamma’ gene in Test Subject 23: A Sergeant Matterhorn. Dr. Smiley continues to use this procedure on other Test Subjects both with and without the Gamma gene.

- July: The Remaining member of ‘The Five’ Trevor Knight requests the procedure be done to him. It is.
- September: Dr. Smiley does the procedure on himself. He and Knight search for more test subjects.

- May: Matterhorn wins, the other subjects name him leader. The Mutant Militia is formed. They attempt to set up a life on the ‘Benning Islands’.

- Unkown: Matterhorn and his associates realize that their population is declining; they proceed to find other willing individuals to join their group.

- February: Against his better judgment Matterhorn allows the Mutant Militia to take in orphans and runaways for the mutation process.
1985:
- July: The ‘Benning Islands’ are nearly detected by a U.S. stealth flyer. Actions are taken to prevent it from happening again.

- Unkown: The population of the ‘Benning Islands’ is booming, the Mutant Militia stops finding outside recruits. They continue to take in ‘stray’ or ‘rogue’ mutants that have been mutated by other means.
