APPEARANCE:
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 155 lbs

Type: Canon
PERSONALITY: Leonardo shows exceptional leadership, being the most serious and focused among the team and is rather enthusiastic about this role. He is very dedicated to ninjutsu, and is shown to be extremely selfless and righteous. Being the eldest of the four, he feels highly responsible for his brothers and does his best to lead them and ensure that they all make it in one piece. Perfectionism is another agenda for this terrapin, as he wishes to achieve total perfection in his training and goals in order to become a full master of ninjutsu.
Despite his serious demeanor, he does so happen to have a sensitive and childish behavior to balance out. Leo has a slight emotional sensitivity that are usually revealed rather than hidden, which differs him from his younger siblings. However, he happens to be fairly modest and respectively caring even if it seems that he would never get along with someone. Over the years, he had quite outgrown Space Heroes and no longer relies on Captain Ryan's character traits as he used to when he was younger, his personality how being more reformed and aged since then.
As a leader, Leo is usually the one who comes up with most of the plans and strategies while they are out fighting bad guys or simply training in the lair. He still odds against Raphael time to time, and still has a slight phobia of heights (it will rarely come to bite him, of course). Leo had started to blame himself more often when harm is brought to people he cares about, and he cares deeply for his family and friends. His temper is never reached unless someone very close to him is harmed (Namely brothers, splinter and close friends).

POWERS: He does not have any powers. Therefore will not be listed.
STRENGTHS: The terrapin leader has proven to be very confident and focused in his skills and training. His confidence and determination is what makes him a valued team leader. Leonardo is actually more balanced among the four, being agile like Mikey, strong like Raph, and smart like Donnie. He's more adept in his training, favoring the more traditional style of Japanese martial arts and having the tendency of adapting to most situations to be able to make it out alive.
WEAKNESSES: On occasion, he may make impulsive decisions that may make the situation worse. While he is in fact the leader of the team, there are often times where his brothers refuse to obey his orders despite how experienced he is about leading thus make it difficult for him to be able to ensure they survive another day. Leo is also rarely angered, but his anger can become destructive if loved ones are harmed or threatened--this rage may perhaps cloud his critical thinking and will result to him making irrational decisions.
ABILITIES: He is highly skilled in Ninjutsu and mastery of kenjutsu, Niten-ichi Ryu and iaidō. Leo has Olympic Level agility, speed and strength and happens to be a keen strategist, and master of stealth and swordsmanship. He is knowledgeable in Chi Gong and fluent in Japanese, though he has started learning Russian.
EQUIPMENT: Dual Ninjato, shuriken, smoke bombs.
HISTORY:
Leonardo and his brothers were once four small pet turtles long ago, purchased by a defense instructor Hamato Yoshi until he unmistakably eavesdropped on strange men and stepped on a rats tail. A fight ensued and during the fight the fish bowl that contained the turtles was dropped and the mutagen spilled onto them and Yoshi, the strange men fled and Yoshi and the turtles mutated. The turtles became humanoid turtles and Yoshi a humanoid brown rat, the five of them hid away in an abandoned train station in the sewers. Leo and his brothers have been named respectively after renaissance artists and trained in the art of ninjutsu by Yoshi who now goes by "Master Splinter", they have remained underground for fifteen years until they soon convinced their surrogate father to allow them on the surface. Splinter reluctantly allowed them to go, where they took the chance.
The four brothers explored the city, experiencing new things and was once introduced to pizza after frightening a pizza boy involuntarily. Leo decides it's time to head home after another round of exploring before they spotted a woman being taken captive by strange men that were once described by Splinter when he told them the story of how they came to be. They decided to rescue her, fighting the strange men and noticed that they were robots during the fight. During the scuffle, the robots managed to succeed escaping with her and the four decided to follow them, being lead to the TCRI building where the woman was to be held. Leonardo hatched a plan to break in and rescue her, and the four succeeded--later finding that the robots were basically disguises for these weird aliens that were called Utroms. But why they were kidnapping the woman who revealed herself to be April O'Neil was a mystery. She later became a new addition to the family, having learned they were good and befriended them.
Splinter had decided to make Leonardo the leader of the team, seeing as they needed one if they were going to to up to the surface more often. Since then, they continued roaming the surface--sometimes stopping crime or trying to find out more about the Utroms. Shredder had later learned about them and decided to come to New York to finish what he started (namely his vendetta over Yoshi). They had met many enemies and few allies along the way (Namely Bishop, Baxter, Leatherhead, Casey Jones, etc), struggling to survive against the Shredder's reign of terror. The turtles had snuck in TCRI numerous times with the help of Leatherhead, finding database chips and eventually discovered their plans and why they needed April. Utroms happened to be good and needed April because her DNA was specifically unique and might help them go back home. So, the turtles decided to become allies with the Utroms.
Later on, the Shredder successfully lured and trapped the turtles, causing Splinter to emerge to save his sons. The turtles battled with the Shredder one last time, or they thought. The last they saw of Oroku Saki was when he was lost in a explosion and there was no time to save him. Karai, Shredder's daughter, took over the Foot Clan and blamed the turtles for her fathers presumed demise. She sought to destroy them, but Leo managed to convince her that they actually tried to save him and that his demise was his own doing.
Leonardo, his brothers, and Splinter later decided to go to Japan to continue training with the Ancient One as the turtles needed higher training that Yoshi could not teach. So they trained with the Ancient One, later joined by Karai because she felt that it would make her a better and more responsible leader of the Foot. After two years of training in japan, Leo and his family returned to New York where they stumbled upon a city-wide war between the Foot Clan and the Purple Dragons because of the Foot's current leadership. Bishop was also involved, only because the agent was trying to end it before it got worse.
Taking the mantle once more, the fearless leader made a plan to settle the fight on neutral grounds. With the help of Bishop, the turtles managed to make both factions come into terms. The Dragons would no longer serve the Foot with Karai in power, but they were not to incite another gang war. Because that Leonardo managed to come up with a way to settle the score between them without causing more damage than needed earned more respect from the Foot's leader. Both Karai and Leo made a truce between them so that the Foot Clan would become the turtle's allies and that they would no longer fight against each other. This truce had stuck on for very long, even when Leo and his brothers had reached adulthood.
Other Information:
▶ Leonardo's name is Italian, meaning "Strong as the Lion/Lion-Bold". Given the fact that he was adopted by Hamato Yoshi/Splinter, Leonardo's full name would be "Hamato Leonardo". In Katakana, Leonardo's name is spelt: レオナルド (Reonarudo).
▶ Niten Ryu is described as Leonardo's weapons, but it is in fact a fighting style, and not a weapon. A two-sword setup is properly known as a daisho. Niten Ryu, instead, is short for Niten-ichi Ryu (二天一流), a two-sword style developed by legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi. Leo's swords, whilst being referred to as "Katana", are actually "Ninjatō" (忍者刀 ninjatō), (also known as ninjaken (忍者剣) or shinobigatana (忍刀).
▶ Leo seems to be the most educated (out of the four brothers) about Japanese culture and etiquette: He understands Japanese when spoken to and is able to speak in this language to some extent, so he may understand what Booyakasha means (Blessing and love to the very moment). He knows, at least basics, of Japanese etiquette (i.e. he bows to master Splinter). He uses chopsticks correctly and deftly.
▶ He is depicted as having blue eyes, like his brother, Mikey, but Leo's eyes are a darker shade of blue.
▶ Of all four turtles, Leonardo seems to be the most loyal and respectful to Splinter.
▶ He is the oldest of his brothers; Raphael, Donatello & Michelangelo.
▶ He is the second tallest of his brothers, the first surprisingly being Donatello.
▶ Of all the turtles, he's the most mature one: He was made leader by Splinter's choice. He sometimes acts like a parent to Michelangelo.
▶ He argues with Raph, and eventually finds logical reasons to win the argument. Donatello and Michelangelo tend to listen to Leonardo instead of Raphael, because he thinks first before taking action. Unlike his brothers, Leonardo always takes Splinter's advice seriously.
▶ Leo is the first turtle to refer to Master Splinter as their father.

RP SAMPLE:
{It was one of those nights, Leonardo was doing a solo patrol while his brothers were having their downtime in the lair. Though it was mostly because he wanted to clear his head, have some fresh air even though it's not particularly fresh as he'd want it to be. It still was the air he grew up with. The fearless leader just couldn't help but think about what had went on through his life, things had changed since they first roamed the surface of the city. They made new friends, new enemies. How long had it been since the death of Oroku Saki? Too long. He still had this weird feeling that the Shredder was alive, but out of all he believed that it was just impossible. There was no way he could have survived that fire.
Why was he still thinking about it after so long? Did he feel guilty? For what? Saki's death was his own doing, everyone tried to save him and he refused to be saved. Karai wasn't mad at them anymore, she understood the situation and which is why they were now allies. But, there was just something that was calling to him. He wasn't sure what exactly was making him think about it now after so long.
But perhaps it was best to discontinue dwelling on the matter, he's gone, things are fine. While occasionally they deal with crooks and reoccurring enemies, life was as normal as it could get.
Flipping onto another roof, Leonardo stood still as he landed, glancing up at the night sky. He continued to dwell on his thoughts, thinking about something else to get his mind off Saki as he moved to sit on a raised surface of the roof. It's been a long time, he was old enough to develop wisdom but not as good as his father. He wondered what would happen if everyone went their own path, lived their own lives with new families—sure it may be unlikely but it's getting to that point where they are growing up. They were no longer reckless teenagers like the used to be, but most of his brothers haven't bothered growing up more than they should have. It felt like he was babysitting children now, and he was tired of it.
Perhaps he could take up Karai's offer and help train the Foot Clan, it would give him something to do and give him more leading experience. While he was wiser about leading than he was, there was still some things he needed to learn about being a leader. He just hoped that Splinter was alright with it.}
